The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the signing of Ayub Nurhussien, a third-year player with Ontario Tech University.

Nurhussien, a 6-foot-10 forward, averaged 14.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 29.7 minutes in 21 games in his first season with the Ridgebacks. In his first year with the club, Nurhussien helped lead the team to an OUA playoff berth, securing a victory against Lakehead University in the program’s first-ever playoff game.

“We’re looking forward to providing exposure to Ayub (Nurhussien) in a pro setting,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice president of basketball operations. “We are excited to nurture his development that should translate into the fall when he returns to Ontario Tech.”

Before transferring to Ontario Tech, Nurhussien spent time at Pearl River Community College and Highland Community College, appearing in 61 games combined between the two programs.

“It’s a great honour to get to work alongside and learn from an incredible coaching staff and a great group of proven professionals,” said Nurhussien. “I’m going to soak in as much as I can from this experience. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity.”

The signing continues to fill out the Honey Badgers roster leading into training camp that opens next month. Nurhussien joins three other current U SPORTS players in Callum Baker, Cole Syllas, and David Walker on Brampton’s roster.
