Al Whitley is a highly accomplished Sports Management Executive with more than 22 years of experience in the NBA, where he established a reputation for excellence in operations, logistics, organizational strategy, and leadership. His career has been defined by building winning cultures, elevating team services, and driving success at both the NBA and G League levels.


Whitley began his career in the Dallas Mavericks’ Marketing Department before quickly transitioning to Basketball Operations, where he laid the foundation for his career by embracing roles such as Head Equipment Manager and Special Advisor to team owner Mark Cuban. These experiences provided him with a unique perspective on the inner workings of a professional sports franchise, blending business operations with basketball strategy.


In 2017, Whitley was appointed General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Texas Legends, the G League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks. In this role, he assumed responsibility for all facets of the organization, including basketball and business operations, staff development, player personnel, budget management, and roster creation. Under his leadership, the Legends became a vital extension of the Mavericks’ developmental pipeline while also building strong community and business partnerships.


Throughout his career, Whitley benefited from mentorship and collaboration with some of the NBA’s most influential figures. He worked alongside Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, Hall of Fame Coaches Don Nelson and Rick Carlisle, and Hall of Fame Players Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Jason Kidd, to name a few. These relationships and experiences provided invaluable insight into leadership, team building, and the championship pedigree required to sustain excellence at the highest level.


A defining milestone in Whitley’s career was being part of the Mavericks’ historic 2011 NBA Championship, a testament to his culmination of years of dedication. His journey reflects not only professional achievement but also a commitment to fostering excellence, innovation, and culture in professional basketball.

Although originally born and raised in Canada, Al currently lives in Dallas, TX with his wife Priscilla and daughters Koi and Kenzi.
