BROXSIE EARNS FIRST PROFESSIONAL WIN AS HEAD COACH

On Thursday, the Brampton Honey Badgers defeated the Winnipeg Sea Bears 75-71 at the CAA Centre. It was a night of firsts for the club. It was the team’s first win of the season, the first win in Brampton, and Antoine Broxsie’s first win as a professional head coach. The victory was important for both Broxsie and the players after they opened the season with loses to Ottawa and Scarborough last week.

“It feels amazing, it feels more amazing because I have a really good group of guys that are bought into what we are teaching,” said Broxsie. “I expect us to build on what we do, who we are, and continue to get better on a day-to-day basis.”

Brampton’s victory wasn’t an easy one. They struggled in parts of the game, trailing by 10 points on multiple occasions. However, the Honey Badger’s found their groove in target score time. The win was sparked by a clutch performance from Jeremiah Tilmon Jr. who finished the night with 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Christian Vital was also a key factor in the victory, recording a team-high 17 points returning from a two-day mini-camp with the Utah Jazz earlier in the week. A few important buckets from returning forward Zane Waterman, and a high-flying block from Vital helped the Honey Badgers close out the game. Cody John was strong off the bench recording 10 points, including the game-winning free throws.

“I want to go into Montreal and give them our best. They are a really good team, well coached, well-rounded so going in there and make sure we stay connected,” said Broxsie.

Broxsie and the Honey Badgers will look to stay in the win column on Sunday, June 4 in Montreal. They square off against the Alliance (2-1) at 4 p.m. ET. The game will be available for streaming on TSN+, CEBL+ powered by BetVictor and on the CEBL Mobile app available on iOS and Android devices.
