CITY OF BRAMPTON PROCLAIMS JULY 26: “BRAMPTON HONEY BADGERS, WE ARE BRAMPTON DAY”

The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Wednesday that City of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, on behalf of Brampton City Council, proclaimed July 26, 2023: “Brampton Honey Badgers, We Are Brampton Day” in the City of Brampton. The proclamation marks the first of its kind for a CEBL team.

The significance of the date involves the Brampton Honey Badgers hosting its first nationally televised game since moving to the City of Brampton. The Honey Badgers play host to the Scarborough Shooting Stars on Wednesday, July 26 at 8 p.m. at CAA Centre, live from coast-to-coast-to-coast on TSN 1 and TSN 4. A series of community events will be planned throughout the historic day.

“The Brampton Honey Badgers have made significant efforts to engage with the Brampton community, and in doing so, they are creating a great sense of civic pride,” said City of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown. “From local community clubs, recreation programs, school teams, and now having our own professional franchise, basketball is an important part of the fabric of our City.”

The proclamation was made during the final meeting of City Council before the summer recess. Proclamations are ceremonial documents issued and signed by the Mayor on behalf of Brampton City Council that officially recognize the importance of an event, a campaign, or an organization of significance, interest or benefit to the citizens of Brampton for a particular day, week or month.

Earlier this month, the Brampton Honey Badgers launched its “We Are Brampton” brand showcased during a community event at the popular Foot Locker Shoppers World location and became the first franchise in the CEBL to have its team merchandise sold at a Foot Locker store. The Honey Badgers will wear this new jersey during the TSN broadcast.

“This proclamation is a symbol of the tremendous support the Honey Badgers franchise has received from the community since permanently moving to the City of Brampton just seven months ago,” said Michael Cvitkovic, president, Brampton Honey Badgers. “We are proud to be the only professional sports team in Brampton and we share in the excitement felt around the community about showcasing our city to the sports nation on TSN.”

Tickets to the game can be purchased online at www.honeybadgers.ca/tickets.
