CODY JOHN BREAKS RECORD FOR MOST GAMES PLAYED IN FRANCHISE HISTORY

Kendall Cooper • Jun 19, 2023

On Sunday (June 18), the Brampton Honey Badgers took a short trip to take on the Scarborough Shooting Stars. The matchup was the Honey Badgers eighth game of the season, and second against their neighbours to the east. For Cody John, the Sunday night matchup earned him the franchise record in games played in the pinstripes. The Mississauga native now holds the record with 31 games, passing Keevan Veinot, who was a member of the Honey Badgers during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

“Cody embodies what it means to be a Honey Badger. He’s a hard-working, selfless person who truly cares about his teammates,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice president of basketball operations. “He has proven himself to be an important piece off the bench and someone we can rely on in any situation.”

When John arrived for day one of training camp with Brampton in mid-May, he began his fourth season in the CEBL and second stint with the Honey Badgers. The guard made his professional debut during the 2020 CEBL Summer Series with the Honey Badgers, finishing the season one win away from a spot in the championship game. John’s CEBL journey continued in Hamilton for the 2021 season before joining the Ottawa BlackJacks organization last summer appearing in 11 games. John is having a solid first half to the 2023 campaign, averaging 10.8 points in eight games and making a name for himself as the sixth man, averaging 23.9 minutes off the bench.

John and the Honey Badgers look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, June 21, when they host the Calgary Surge at 7:00 p.m.
