HAMILTON HOSTS MONTREAL MAY 25 IN 2022 CEBL SEASON OPENER

Feb 03, 2022

Now with 10 teams in six provinces, the CEBL is Canada’s largest pro sports league

The Hamilton Honey Badgers tip off the fourth Canadian Elite Basketball League season Wednesday, May 25 when the expansion Montreal Alliance visit FirstOntario Centre, the team announced Thursday. It will be the first of 100 regular season CEBL games played in 69 days for Canada’s official national professional basketball league.

Hamilton opens with a three-game homestand versus Montreal, Fraser Valley and Guelph. The Honey Badgers first road game is scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at Scarborough in the home-opener for the expansion Shooting Stars. The longest road trip of the season comes in July with games at Montreal, Edmonton and Saskatchewan.

The schedule includes home-and-home encounters with each team in the league, plus a second home game versus Guelph and a second road game at Scarborough. Of Hamilton’s 10 home games, four will be played on Thursdays, two on Fridays, two on Sundays, and one game each on a Saturday and on a Wednesday.

Season, Group, and Flex Pack tickets are on sale now by calling (905) 522-BALL or by visiting www.honeybadgers.ca/tickets. Single game tickets will go on sale in the spring.

Hamilton is led by head coach Ryan Schmidt in his third season. Following last season Hamilton guard Lindell Wigginton signed with the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, while Trevon Duval, Nino Johnson, and Jabari Craig all signed with NBA G League teams. Kenny Ejim, Kyle Johnson, Kalif Young, and JV Mukama each signed contracts with European clubs. Hamilton will begin unveiling its 2022 roster in the weeks leading up to the May 17 opening of training camp.

CBC is the premier media partner of the CEBL. The schedule of nationally televised games will be announced at a later date, but all 100 CEBL games plus the playoffs will be livestreamed on the free CBC Gem streaming service, at cbcsports.ca, and on the CBC Sports app of iOS and Android devices. All games are also livestreamed and archived on the CEBL’s OTT platform, CEBL+, available at www.cebl.ca.
