The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Wednesday they have selected Najee Brown-Henderson (10th overall) of the University of Windsor and University of Toronto’s Callum Baker (11th overall) in the 2023 CEBL U SPORTS Draft.

A guard from Windsor, ON, Brown-Henderson is coming off an impressive senior season with the hometown Lancers. In 23 games with the University of Windsor, he averaged 20.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.3 steals, and was given All-OUA Second Team honors. The guard finished top-10 in assists and minutes per game in his debut campaign in the Ontario University Association. Brown-Henderson helped lead the talented Lancers lineup to an OUA Tournament Semifinal berth, a squad that featured former Honey Badgers’ forward and reigning CEBL U SPORTS Player of the Year Thomas Kennedy.

The high-school graduate of Balboa School in San Francisco, CA, began his collegiate career at Triton College in Illinois, appearing in 50 games and averaging 10.7 points and 2.7 assists over two seasons with the Trojans. Brown-Henderson redshirted his junior season after transferring to Northeastern State, before playing 15 games for Mayville State the following season and winning a North Star Conference Regular Season Championship.

“Najee is a strong guard who’s a proven scorer at the collegiate level,” said Honey Badgers General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Jermaine Anderson. “His ability to shoot the ball and make plays for his teammates are assets that can be utilized at the next level. We’re definitely looking forward to welcoming Najee to the Honey Badger family.”

A native of nearby Oakville, ON, Baker appeared in 18 games for the University of Toronto averaging 21.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 36.9 minutes of action. With the Blues, he led the province in minutes played per game while finishing second in points per game. Baker’s debut OUA season earned him OUA Second Team All-Star honors.

The 6-foot-2 guard was a top-10 ranked prospect during his high school journey at St. James High School and Bishop Walsh High School in Maryland. A second-round selection of the Honey Badgers, Baker’s ongoing collegiate career has featured stops at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Flagler College, where he has a combined average of 3.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 64 games.

“Callum is a skilled guard and consistent threat from beyond the arc,” said Anderson. “He’s willing to put in the work and do whatever is necessary to prove himself. Callum is a perfect fit for our culture, we’re definitely looking forward to having him with us this summer.”

Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers open the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the CEBL's fifth season. The Honey Badgers play their first game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against rival Scarborough. The CEBL announced the permanent relocation of the Hamilton Honey Badgers to Brampton on November 28, 2022.
