Honey Badgers Sign David Tyndale To Coaching Staff

Apr 29, 2021

The Hamilton Honey Badgers announced the signing of David Tyndale to a role as assistant coach for the 2021 season Thursday. Tyndale is head coach Ryan Schmidt’s first new hire, joining returning assistant coaches Sheldon Cassimy and Will Rooney who were announced earlier this month.

“Player development is a huge focal point and always at the forefront of what we are doing in Hamilton, and David has established himself as one of the best development coaches in Canada,” said Schmidt. “His commitment to helping players get better is what stands out the most, and our guys will truly benefit from him being on staff. We’re excited to have David on board, and I’m really looking forward to working with him this summer”.

Tyndale is a renowned basketball trainer based out of the Greater Toronto Area. After graduating high school as a top player in the country, Tyndale enrolled at York University where he graduated with a Kinesiology degree. While at York, Tyndale played five years on the men’s basketball team winning the OUA East Rookie of the Year award and becoming a two-time OUA All-star. Tyndale played two seasons for the Orangeville A’s of the NBLC before his professional career was cut short due to a knee injury.

Tyndale pivoted into training at the grassroots level and has since grown to develop his own brand, DTailsMatter Basketball Training. His intensity, creativity and attention to detail have earned him the opportunity to train and develop a lot of Canada’s top talent and professionals. His ability to communicate the game even across language barriers granted him access to become a lead trainer for the Guangzhou Loong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association during their training camp.

The Honey Badgers open their season June 26 on the road against the Edmonton Stingers. Stops at Saskatoon and Ottawa precede the home-opener versus the Guelph Nighthawks at FirstOntario Centre on July 3. The games against Edmonton and Guelph will be televised nationally on CBC. Hamilton is coming off a 4-4 record and third place finish in the 2020 CEBL Summer Series, which marked the first professional sports in Canada to return to play after Covid-19 halted sports in March of 2020. More than 1.2 million viewers across Canada watched games live on CBC, and games were carried to more than 130 million viewers around the world.
