Honey Badgers Sign Free Agent Guards Denzel-Dyson and Tarrant

Hamilton continues to mine NBA G League

The Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday the signing of free agent guards Demetrius Denzel-Dyson and Ricky Tarrant.

Denzel-Dyson, a six-foot-five guard from Covington, Tennessee, completed his first season of professional basketball with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA G League. He averaged 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 17.7 minutes in 43 games, while shooting .413 from beyond the arc, ranking second on the team. Denzel-Dyson hit five triples in a game on two occasions, including as part of his season-high 17 points on March 8 versus the Lakeland Magic. He split his collegiate career between Massachusetts and Samford where he averaged 10.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 116 games. During the 2016-17 campaign, he scored 580 points, the seventh highest total in Samford history. Denzel-Dyson will
wear Honey Badgers black and gold this summer in Hamilton and match his cousin, Ramon Foster, veteran guard with
the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tarrant, a six-foot-two point guard from Memphis, Tennessee, was a third round draft pick by the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League in 2016. The 25-year-old has played professional basketball in Turkey, France, Venezuela, Hungary, and Canada. He averaged 26.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 35.4 minutes in 25 games for Artvin Belediye of the Turkey Basketball League this season. Tarrant played 116 collegiate games split between Memphis, Alabama and Tulane, where is averaged 14.0 points, 3.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 31.6 minutes.

The CEBL, the official professional league partner of Canada Basketball, opens its inaugural season May 9 with franchises in Fraser Valley (Abbotsford), Edmonton, Guelph, Hamilton, Saskatchewan (Saskatoon), and Niagara (St. Catharines). CEBL teams will play a 20-game regular season from May 9 to August 15, culminating with a league championship playoff at a site to be announced.
