The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday they have signed Ashley Hamilton as the club’s non-American import. The six-foot-seven forward comes to Brampton in the midst of a 10-year professional career including stops in eight countries.

A native of London, England, Hamilton becomes the second non-Americas import player in franchise history, following Slovenia’s Martin Krampelj who won a CEBL Championship with the Honey Badgers last summer. Hamilton joins the team following a season with Quimper UJAP in France, appearing in 26 games while averaging 9.7 points and 3.2 rebounds. Throughout his extensive 292-game professional career, Hamilton holds a career average of 11.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

The 34-year-old returns to the CEBL after spending last season with the Montreal Alliance. In 11 games for the expansion franchise, he averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while leading the Alliance in scoring and finishing third on the roster in assists.

“Ashley is a proven professional in every aspect of the game, on and off the court,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice-president of basketball operations. “He brings a wealth of experience both internationally and in the CEBL, and we are excited to welcome him to the family.”

The guard most recently represented Great Britain at the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers where he played alongside current Honey Badgers guard Kyle Johnson. Hamilton made his senior national team debut with Great Britain at the 2014 European Championships in Crete, Greece.

Hamilton had a breakout season with the London City Royals in the British Basketball League in 2019, where he won the championship and was named BBL Finals MVP.  After spending the entirety of his five-year collegiate career at Loyola Marymount University, Hamilton began his professional journey with Victoria Libertas Pesaro in Italy in 2013. He went on to play in Lebanon, Ukraine, Greece, Spain, and England, amounting to significant international experience.

The Honey Badgers are currently tied with Ottawa atop the Eastern Conference standings with a 4-2 record and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

Brampton will travel to Winnipeg on Thursday night for a rematch against the Sea Bears. In their last meeting on June 1, the Honey Badgers earned the victory, 75-71, at CAA Centre. The team will then travel across the GTA for a date with Scarborough on June 18 before returning home on June 21 against the Western Conference-leading Calgary Surge.
