HONEY BADGERS TO OPEN TRAINING CAMP MONDAY AT HUMBER COLLEGE

The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) are set to begin their championship defense Monday when training camp opens at Humber College, North Campus in Etobicoke.

With a training camp roster that features a league-most seven players with prior CEBL experience, the Honey Badgers are poised to defend the championship trophy in their inaugural season in Brampton. CEBL Sixth Man of the Year, Koby McEwen, and CEBL Finals MVP, Christian Vital, are two of six players who were a part of last year’s championship. Zane Waterman, Jeremiah Tilmon Jr., Prince Oduro, and Kyle Johnson round out the group of familiar faces in the pinstripes from 2022. Cody John rejoins the Honey Badgers for a second stint with the team after appearing in 23 games combined between the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

The Honey Badgers have six players with their eyes on making their professional debut this summer in Brampton. Cal Poly Humboldt product Jaden Edwards, Scarborough’s Jahbril Price-Noel, and Patrick Emilien from the University of Maryland inked their first professional contracts earlier in the week. Last month, Brampton selected Najee Brown-Henderson (10th overall) of the University of Windsor and the University of Toronto’s Callum Baker in the 2023 CEBL U SPORTS Draft. Brampton’s very own Shamar Givance will also join the Honey Badgers after concluding his collegiate career at the University of Texas at El Paso.

“Our organization is really excited about the talented group of new and familiar faces to begin day one,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice-president of basketball operations. “We have some key veteran pieces from last year’s championship back for another summer to go along with highly-skilled individuals looking to take the first steps of their journey as a professional.”

Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers start the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the CEBL's fifth season live on national television, as part of a multi-year deal with TSN. The Honey Badgers play their first home game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against rival Scarborough. The CEBL announced the permanent relocation of the Honey Badgers from Hamilton to Brampton on November 28, 2022.
