The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have signed recent Cal Poly Humboldt graduate Jaden Edwards for the upcoming season. The Portland, Oregon native will begin his first professional campaign in Brampton this summer with the defending CEBL Champions. 

Edwards recently concluded a five-year collegiate career with the Lumberjacks averaging 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds in 11 games as a senior. He achieved double-digits in scoring in nine contests, including a 25-point performance against Regis University on November 25. Before arriving in Arcata, California, Edwards attended Arkansas Tech University, appearing in six games during his junior season. A high school product of Roosevelt High School in Portland, he committed to North Idaho College where he spent his first two collegiate seasons playing in 53 games for the Cardinals.

“Jaden is a competitor and will have an opportunity to work for a roster spot on the opening day roster,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice-president of basketball operations. “We’re looking forward to witnessing the beginning of his professional career.”

The 23-year-old is the son of former 11-year NBA veteran and 1989 NBA Draft first-round pick Theodore Edwards. Nicknamed “Blue Edwards,” Theodore Edwards was selected by the Vancouver Grizzlies with the 26th selection in the 1995 NBA Expansion Draft.

Edwards and the Honey Badgers are scheduled to open up training camp for the 2023 season on May 15 at Humber College.

Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers start the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the CEBL's fifth season live on national television, as part of a multi-year deal with TSN. The Honey Badgers play their first home game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against rival Scarborough. A league created by Canadians for Canadians with a mission to develop Canadian players, coaches, sports executives, and referees, the CEBL boasts the highest percentage of Canadian players of any pro league in the country with 71 per cent of its 2022 rosters being Canadian. Nine players have moved from the CEBL into the NBA following a CEBL season, and 28 CEBL players attended NBA G League training camps last October.
