JERMAINE ANDERSON

General Manager & Vice President of Basketball Operations

Jermaine Anderson enters his fifth season with the Honey Badgers in the role of General Manager after being promoted to General Manager and Vice President, Basketball Operations on March 8, 2023. Since he was appointed General Manager of the Honey Badgers on December 19, 2019, the team has accumulated a 34-26 (.567) overall record, including reaching four consecutive CEBL Playoff appearances, two CEBL Championship Weekend appearances, and one CEBL Championship.

Anderson constructed a championship roster in 2022 leading to the Honey Badgers defeating the Scarborough Shooting Stars, 90-88, at TD Place Arena on August 14, earning the first CEBL Championship in franchise history. That victory earned the Honey Badgers the right to represent Canada in FIBA’s prestigious Basketball Champions League Americas, during the winter of 2022-23. Anderson served as General Manager of the Honey Badgers entry, building a roster from scratch because the players from the summer edition of the Honey Badgers were unavailable at that point in the calendar year due to their playing obligations overseas.

The Toronto native was a highly respected mainstay with Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team from 2004-18, earning the nickname “Rock” for being a stabilizing leader as point guard and team captain during 14 years that included more than 80 international games. He also played 11 seasons in European pro leagues where his journey took him to 15 teams in eight countries. Off the court, he secured funding and sponsorships to implement youth programs in some of those cities.

Anderson had many highlights during his tenure with the Canadian National Team, including representing Canada at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and at the 2007 Pan American Games. At the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, Anderson posted 19 points, 11 assists, and four rebounds against highly touted Argentina in the bronze medal game (an 88-73 Canada loss). He was named to the all-tournament third team along with teammate Joel Anthony, who served two seasons as Player Development Coach with the Hamilton Honey Badgers before being named General Manager of the CEBL’s Montreal Alliance prior to their inaugural season of 2021.

Following his playing career, Anderson became a player development coach for Canada Basketball, handling player relations duties that ensured players had access to training facilities and health care across Canada. After his appointment as General Manager with the Honey Badgers, Anderson spent the CEBL off-season as a player development coach with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association from 2019-22.

The range of Anderson’s experiences as an elite European pro player, a Canadian National Team captain, an NCAA Division I player, a player development coach, and accomplished academician make him ideally suited to be a major contributor to the CEBL’s mission to develop Canadian basketball talent.

The Eastern Commerce Collegiate Institute graduate earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing while playing at Fordham University. He earned a master’s of business administration degree from the Ted Rogers School of Business at Ryerson University in 2019. In 2016 he earned his CSC in Finance from the Canadian Securities Institute.

In 2018, Anderson founded the Fifty For Free Youth Community Initiative, a not-for-profit organization based in Toronto and Halifax that is focused on building character, cultivating financial literacy, and developing basketball skills with youth from under-served communities. In its first four years, the program has brought together 300 students and more than 40 mentors to laugh, learn and play together, creating lifelong bonds at no cost to the students or their families. Over the course of several months, each participant benefits from workshops that address credit, real estate, taxes, budgeting, investing, and more.
