ATLANTA HAWKS HIRE FORMER HONEY BADGERS’ ASSISTANT COACH, BRITTNI DONALDSON

Kendall Cooper • Jun 07, 2023

Former Honey Badgers assistant coach, Brittni Donaldson, was hired by the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. Donaldson becomes the first female coach in the history of the Hawks’ franchise and is one of seven female assistant coaches in the NBA.

The Northern Iowa graduate began her involvement with the NBA in 2017, where she was a data analyst for the Toronto Raptors. In 2019, Donaldson was part of the Raptors’ front office that helped them in the 2019 NBA Finals and got promoted to an assistant coach, shortly after. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she joined the Raptors 905 alongside former Honey Badgers head coach Ryan Schmidt. Donaldson joined the Honey Badgers for the 2022 CEBL season and was an important member helping to secure the club’s first CEBL Championship.

“Coach Donaldson is a basketball mind, a champion in every sense of the word, and more importantly, an incredible human being,” said Jermaine Anderson, general manager and vice president of basketball operations. “Nobody is more deserving of the opportunity. We wish Britt nothing but the best in Atlanta.”

The Iowa native was most recently with the Detroit Pistons for the 2022-23 NBA season before Hawks’ Head Coach, Quin Snyder, hired her for the upcoming campaign. At only 30 years old, Donaldson has a long career ahead of her and will continue to pave the way for women in sports.
