Shooting guard will return to Ontario after successful rookie pro season

The Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the signing of free agent Malcolm Duvivier.

A six-foot-three guard from Toronto, Duvivier is enjoying a successful first season of professional basketball. He averaged 9.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 20.4 minutes in 39 regular season games for the Halifax Hurricanes, while ranking second among all players in the National Basketball League of Canada with a .430 three-point field goal percentage. He is averaging 3.4 points and 12.4 minutes in five postseason games. Duvivier netted a career-high 29 points, including seven triples on March 21 at Cape Breton. He averaged 16.8 points during the Hurricane’s six-game winning streak to close out the regular season, helping lead Halifax to a second-place finish in the Atlantic Division.

In 127 college games, Duvivier averaged 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He played three seasons at Oregon State before finishing his collegiate career with Akron. During the 2015-16 campaign, Duvivier helped lead Oregon State to its first NCAA Tournament berth since 1990. In his junior year with the Beavers, Duvivier was selected to the Pac-12 Conference Student-Athlete Leadership Team.

He represented Canada at the FIBA U17 World Championship, where the team finished fifth, and helped the U16 Canadian National Team win bronze at FIBA Americas. In 2012, Duvivier was named MVP of the Canada Basketball National Championships, leading Team Ontario to the U17 gold medal.

Duvivier (pronounced DU-viv-ee-ay) is the second free agent signing announced by the Honey Badgers following the inaugural CEBL Draft last month.

Hamilton’s historic first game is scheduled for Sunday, May 12 when Edmonton visits the Honey Badgers at FirstOntario Centre. To learn more about Hamilton’s new professional sports franchise, visit www.honeybadgers.ca.
