The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday the contract extension of Jermaine Anderson as General Manager and Vice President, Basketball Operations. Anderson enters a fifth consecutive season with the Honey Badgers, making him the longest serving current member of the organization.

“We’ve grown a lot as an organization over the last five years, and personally I’ve been able to learn, evolve and work with amazing people,” said Anderson. “More importantly, we have been able to develop our players, while providing an outlet for them to service the community. We’ve experienced a lot of change year-over-year, but we’re definitely looking forward to the opportunity to service our players and to continue to help grow the game in our country.”

Since Anderson joined the organization in December 2019, the Honey Badgers have accumulated a 34-26 (.567) overall record, including reaching four consecutive CEBL playoff appearances, two CEBL Championship Weekend appearances, and one CEBL Championship. 

Forty-five of 53 Honey Badgers players have signed professional contracts around the world after playing with the Honey Badgers under Anderson’s reign with the black and gold. 

The Toronto native played in more than 80 international games in 14 years with Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team until 2018, earning the nickname “Rock” for being a stabilizing leader as point guard and team captain. His playing journey also included 11 seasons in European pro leagues with 15 teams in eight countries. 

Following his playing career, Anderson became a player development coach for Canada Basketball, and has spent the CEBL off-season as a player development coach with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association from 2019-22 after being appointed General Manager with the Honey Badgers. 

Anderson is the founder of the Fifty For Free Youth Community Initiative, a not-for-profit organization based in Toronto and Halifax that is focused on building character, cultivating financial literacy, and developing basketball skills with youth from under-served communities. Over the course of several months, each participant benefits from workshops that address credit, real estate, taxes, budgeting, investing, and more.

With the CEBL free agency window officially open, the Honey Badgers will look to improve on last year’s 8-12 regular season record, starting with the season opener May 24 when the Niagara River Lions visit the CAA Centre.
