Mar 16, 2021

The Hamilton Honey Badgers announced Tuesday that they have re-signed their fourth returnee from the 2020 Summer Series, Mississauga native Cody John. John played in all eight games for the Honey Badgers in 2020 averaging 6.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12.3 minutes per game.

“We’re looking forward to having Cody return for a second season”, said Honey Badgers General Manager Jermaine Anderson. “Cody is an exceptional young talent with a lot of potential. He is a proven dynamic scorer who is aspiring to elevate his game.”

“Cody was a huge spark plug for us last summer and we’re excited to have him back for a second season”, echoed Head Coach Ryan Schmidt. “Having continuity from what we started building last summer was extremely important as we put out roster together for the 2021 season, and Cody fits everything we’re about as a team and organization. I’m really looking forward to coaching him again and continue to help him grow and develop even more as a player.”

The Weber State graduate signed with the Golden Eagle YLLI in Therandë of the Basketball Federation of Kosovo following the Honey Badgers 2020 season. He is averaging 16.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2 steals and 32.6 minutes in 14 games with the team.

John becomes Hamilton’s fifth signing of the offseason and fourth returning player as the coaches continue to build on the success of last summer. John joins returnees Duane Notice, Jean-Victor Mukama, Kalif Young, and Aaron Best.

Hamilton is coming off a 4-4 record and third place finish in the CEBL Summer Series, which marked the first professional sports in Canada to return to play after Covid-19 halted sports in March of 2020. More than 1.2 million viewers across Canada watched games live on CBC, and games were carried to more than 130 million viewers around the world.
