HONEY BADGERS RE-SIGN WATERMAN

The Brampton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday the return of American forward Zane Waterman for the upcoming campaign. This will be the North Carolina native’s second season in the black and gold pinstripes of his five-year professional career. After hoisting the CEBL trophy this past August, Waterman played in 21 games between Finland’s Helsinki Seagulls and BC Apollon in Cyprus.


Waterman averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 19 appearances with the Honey Badgers last season, including a 23-point and 8-rebound performance against Guelph on June 19.



The 6-foot-8 forward’s professional journey has brought him to eight countries during a five-year span, including Finland, Argentina, Poland, Czech Republic, New Zealand, Portugal, Cyprus, and Canada. With 149 games played professionally across numerous international leagues, Waterman has averaged 12.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 26.0 minutes as a professional.


A graduate of Manhattan College, Waterman played all of his 121-game collegiate career with the Jaspers, becoming the 38th member of the school’s 1000-point club. The Fayetteville Academy product ​​was the fourteenth-ranked prospect out of the state of North Carolina, before announcing his commitment to starting his student-athlete journey with the Jaspers.


Coming off a historic championship in 2022, the Honey Badgers open the 2023 campaign May 24 at TD Place Arena in Ottawa, in what will tip off the CEBL’s fifth season. The Honey Badgers play their first game at the CAA Centre in Brampton two days later, May 26, against rival Scarborough. The CEBL announced the permanent relocation of the Hamilton Honey Badgers to Brampton on November 28, 2022.
