HONEY BADGERS SIGN RAPTORS 905 GUARD BEST

Apr 26, 2022

The Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that they have signed Raptors 905 guard Aaron Best to a contract for the 2022 season. Best played 31 games and averaged 10 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 27.5 minutes per game for the 905 this season. Although Hamilton announced his signing last season, this will mark the six-year pro’s first season in the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

“Aaron is arguably one of the best defensive guards in the country and he’s making a case for himself in the NBA G League as well,” said Honey Badgers general manager Jermaine Anderson. “His ability to shoot and get in the paint will give us different options offensively. Aaron’s willingness to work, compete and develop will be a perfect fit for our culture.”

The Ryerson grad has 238 professional games and over 5000 minutes under his belt during six seasons as a pro, beginning in Lithuania during the 2016-17 season. A 2017 draft selection by the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League, the Scarborough native spent the 2017-18 season as a starting member of the Raptors 905 where he averaged 7.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 52 games. Best played for MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg in Germany in 2018-19, PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece in 2019-20 and Boulazac Basket Dordogne of the LNB Pro A League in France during 2020-21, where he averaged 11.1 points in 26.4 minutes per game. A frequent member of the Canadian Senior Men’s National team, Best most recently represented the country in the FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers where he averaged 11.5 points, 3 rebounds and 1.5 assists helping Canada to four wins and no losses during the tournament’s first window.

The Honey Badgers are coming off a 9-5 record, placing third in the 2021 CEBL season standings. They tip off the fourth Canadian Elite Basketball League season Wednesday, May 25 when the expansion Montreal Alliance visit FirstOntario Centre. It will be the first of 100 regular season CEBL games played in 69 days for Canada’s official national professional basketball league. Tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.ca or 905-522-BALL.
