HONEY BADGERS SIGN TORONTO GUARD McEWEN

Apr 29, 2022

The Hamilton Honey Badgers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Friday that they have signed Toronto guard Koby McEwen to a contract for the 2022 season. McEwen just finished his final year in the NCAA at Weber State averaging 18.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals in 34.1 minutes per game.

“Koby is extremely aggressive on both ends of the floor, and plays with the utmost confidence,” said Honey Badgers general manager Jermaine Anderson. “Even though he’s entering his first professional season, we believe that Koby will be able to contribute immediately. We’re definitely looking forward to having him join our family this season.”

McEwen played his first two collegiate seasons at Utah State. During his first season he averaged the second most points on his team at 14.9 per game and second highest in rebounds per game by a freshman in school history with 5.1. He was named third-team All-Mountain West and NABC second-team all-District 17. McEwen transferred to Marquette for his Junior and Senior years. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was given an extra year of eligibility, finishing his career at Weber State where he was named the 2022 Big Sky Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team All-Big Sky honours. The Toronto native played a total of 150 games during his five-year college career, scoring 2080 points (13.9 average) and grabbing 701 rebounds (4.7average).

The Honey Badgers are coming off a 9-5 record, placing third in the 2021 CEBL season standings. They tip off the fourth Canadian Elite Basketball League season Wednesday, May 25 when the expansion Montreal Alliance visit FirstOntario Centre. It will be the first of 100 regular season CEBL games played in 69 days for Canada’s official national professional basketball league. Tickets are on sale now at ticketmaster.ca or 905-522-BALL.
